NORRLAND WINTERCAMP

Polar BBQ, husky tour & camping

BBQ in the far north of Scandinavia? In the middle of winter? No problem! Enjoy a trip full of exciting contrasts. During the day, activities and adventure are on the agenda while, in the evening, culinary delights await. And these taste twice as good in the open air.

Umeå, the mini metropolis in northern Sweden, is the starting point of the Norrland WinterCamp, reachable, for example, with SAS (via Stockholm) from Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Munich or Zürich. In Umeå, visitors can enjoy the fantastic Picture Museum, the northernmost opera in the world as well as fine cuisine from restaurants that can hold their own amongst the world’s best. No less than nine of Umeå’s restaurants have gained a place in the renowned “White Guide”.

You spend the first night in the middle of Umeå, at the Elite Mimer Hotel and we have reserved a MicroCabin for you for the second and third night. Around 80 kilometres north of Umeå – secluded on Granholmssundet Bay – there are three MicroCabins and a stuga with a small kitchen, shower and toilet – a private refuge in a stunning location with an amazing view over the bay. Each cabin has a large window which offers an intensive connection to the landscape and the night sky. Cosy in your sleeping bag (which you’ll have to bring!) you can gaze at the starry night and if you’re lucky you’ll even witness something very special: Aurora Borealis – the northern lights.

Spurred on by the first night camping, you’ll go to the husky station the next morning (about 2 hours away). When you get there, you’ll be greeted by the barking of your new travelling companions: Siberian huskies full of energy, just waiting for an extensive tour. If you opt for this point on the agenda, you should know that you won’t be driven around. This is an active adventure and you need a bit of courage: Participants steer their own sledges in teams of two. Before you start, you’ll get to know the dogs and the most important part of the sledge: the brake. Afterwards, accompanied by a professional musher, you’ll glide through the magic nature of northern Sweden. Refreshments are provided for.

In the evening, you’ll be rewarded with a delicious BBQ. Near the MicroCabins we’ll have a campfire and enjoy the polar BBQ together. The ingredients for this will be ready, as well as an axe to chop firewood.

Important information: For individual mobility during the stay, you’ll need a rental car. The vehicle must be equipped with winter tyres suitable for the time of year – meaning spikes. Rental car companies at Umeå Airport include Avis, Europcar, Hertz, Mabi and Sixt. The costs of the rental car are not included. Please book your rental car directly with the company of your choice.

You can decide how you arrive: e.g. flight with SAS via Stockholm to Umeå
